CPP is an innovative psychotherapy developed in the United Kingdom, where it is an acknowledged psychotherapeutic practice. It integrates western psychotherapeutic models with Buddhist’ psychology and mindfulness practice. CPP shares the insights of modern body-based trauma-therapies like Somatic Experiencing and Sensorimotor Therapy and uses many of the same techniques. As a Core Process psychotherapist I also work with Internal Family Systems (IFS).
A CPP therapist doesn’t tell you how you should be and how you should improve yourself, but acts as a facilitator for your process. She is professional but at the same time considers the therapeutic process as a shared undertaking. This feels equal and also safe.

In CPP we use mindfulness as a way of observing. You will learn how to connect to your inner self with friendliness, to sense your emotions, feelings and thoughts in your body. The body is an important location of experience – an emotional warehouse. It is a place to hang out when you want to change as it holds so much important information.

As a Core Process therapist I will guide you to orientate towards the deeper layers of your experience at your own pace. There is no need to go digging into your past. Just bringing your awareness towards what is happening inside, in this present moment, is sufficient enable a shift.
The present moment holds the key to every previous moment in your life, and how it has shaped you. In the same way, what you perceive in your body right now has its history in earlier experiences. Mindful focusing is a soft and caring way to discover the roots of your problems and brings greater clarity on what is keeping you from being fundamentally well.

Sometimes our work might bring you into contact with old pain and with habits you developed to protect yourself when life felt intolerable. CPP may help you to explore such overwhelming pain very safely. After a while you may notice that the painful habits no longer have a grip on you. Gradually you will develop new patterns that make space for more relaxation, freedom, creativity and flexibility.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

It’s not always easy to take the step into psychotherapy. It requires courage and trust. Many of us have a lifetime’s experience of broken promises, affecting the capacity to trust easily. Therefore, it is hugely important to find a therapist who feels right for you. It may be useful to know that as a Core Process therapist, I have had many hours of Core Process psychotherapy. I myself have come to the profound understanding that within the human organism (body-mind), there is natural inner movement towards healing. CPP places this movement at the centre of attention, allowing resolution and a sense of freedom to emerge.
